"If you install a needle in the body, you install it in the spirit."
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical practice that breaks through to the essence of the body in order to increase vitality and quality of life. Gently penetrating the body with needles along the meridians makes a way into the soul. When the spirit is unleashed, the body begins to heal itself. It is a way to increase energy, diminish pain, alleviate anxiety, enhance the immune system and prevent, as well as cure disease.
From my childhood on, I was interested in and fascinated by palm reading (chiromancy). Growing up in Russia I readily gave my palm to every gypsy I saw for a reading. The mystery behind the study compelled me to want to make sense of the practice. I attempted to study chiromancy while still living in Russia, but it was forbidden, and very few people were willing to teach me this discipline.
It wasn’t until I was living in the United States that I came across a wealth of books on the subject of palmistry and chiromancy. It was through studying this system of knowledge that I came upon a Chinese book on reading the body. The Chinese did not stop at the palm as others had; this book contained information on how to read the face (physiognomy), and more specifically the eyes, the ears, the nose, etc. The Chinese believe that different parts of the body correspond to the internal organs. By perusing the body, you are reading the future. It was at that moment that the entire practice started to make sense to me: defining the person from the point of view of her/his health. If you think about it, all we have is our health. If there is no health, there is no future.
From there I began to learn about the Five Elements, Yin and Yang and the holistic approach to health. I was working for a Russian company at this time and was doing a lot of traveling to Malaysia and Hong Kong. It was there that I started to visit acupuncture clinics. By this point I was extremely run down and fed up with the business I was operating. In an attempt to unwind and contemplate the next move that was to take place in my life, I sat down with an issue of Spirit Magazine. I do not believe it was an accident that I opened directly to a page with an advertisement for the Pacific Institute of Oriental Medicine. I knew at that moment what it was that I needed to do, so I got on the train and headed to the Institute.
That was over 10 years ago and my journey into the wonder of the mind, body and spirit connection continues. I welcome you to browse these web-pages in order to join me on this ever-flowing path of knowledge into the human spirit.
